Management Team
Avista was created by professionals in the San Francisco area who are passionate about AV gear. We recognized the need for a friendly and reliable audio video rental company serving the individual and corporate user.
Carolyn Alexander
Carolyn manages Sales and Operations for Avista. She brings a wealth of AV management, sales, and rental experience to Avista.
Prior to Avista, Carolyn owned one of the largest wedding and corporate video production companies in the bay area. She began
renting AV equipment to complement the services offered to her consumer and corporate customers, and the business expanded
rapidly. In early 2005, she partnered with Doug Watson to focus on the rental business.
Carolyn has an undergraduate engineering degree from Michigan State and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Doug Watson
Doug handles Marketing and Finance for Avista. He brings a wealth of experience to Avista, having worked in such diverse
industries as entertainment, banking and technology, and is an investor in several restaurant ventures. Doug has also been an
avid audio video enthusiast for the past 20 years. When he's not with his kids or Avista, you'll usually find him watching
live music somewhere in San Francisco.
Doug has an undergraduate economics degree from the University of California, Irvine and an MBA from the University of
Southern California.
David Flashner
David Flashner manages Avista’s San Francisco and Walnut Creek offices. David joined Avista after numerous years of theatrical
sound experience. He has worked at several bay area theatres as a sound engineer, including the American Conservatory Theatre
and California Shakespeare Theatre. David also produces a weekly podcast called PC/Mac SmackDown. He is also an avid sports
fan having season tickets for both the San Jose Sharks and Oakland A’s.
Clayton Higa
Clayton Higa manages the Avista Silicon Valley office and was Avista's first employee. Clayton and Carolyn worked together in
video production for 6 years prior to Avista's formation. Clayton is a wedding video expert, having shot well over 250 in his
career. He also has significant corporate video production and sound equipment experience. Clayton enjoys sharing his
knowledge of AV gear and techniques with our customers and would be happy to give you a few tips if you are new to video
production. When Clayton isn't working, he can often be found at a Warriors or A's game.
Clayton has a bachlors degree in TV and Film from San Jose State University . He earned his Infocomm Certified Technology
Specialist designation in 2007.
